About Salsa

Salsa is an oversight group consisting of technical representatives from the higher education community who will advise on leading edge technology issues, provide prioritization, and set directions in the security space. Salsa is affiliated with the EDUCAUSE/Internet2 Computer and Network Security Task Force, but is independent of both organizations. Salsa will be future-oriented and state-of-the-art in nature, focusing on high performance and advanced networks.

Salsa will form working groups as needed to explore specific issues (e.g., network authentication). The working groups will be open to broad membership from the higher education and research communities, but overall size may be restricted in order to facilitate group operations.

Charter

As of the meeting held March 11, 2004, the following text has been agreed upon as the Final Draft of the Salsa Charter:

Internet2 is convening a group of leading network security architects from the research and education community to address the growing need for a consistent and architectural approach to network security that balances the issues of performance, deployability, support and protection. Appropriate topics for Salsa will be driven by an extant or potential network-based approach or technology designed to affect infrastructure security.

Salsa will form working groups to address specific topics and will act as a focal point for coordinating these activities. These groups will be charged with specific tasks and will internally set milestones/deadlines and identify deliverables. Participation in working groups will be open, but will focus on participation from the research and education community in order to maintain Salsa's primary orientation.
