*Discussion*

The agenda included discussion of the IETF Distributed Security BoF, action item status, and NetAuth in Federated Environments.

There is discussion within the IETF security area about reviving a Distributed Security (distsec) working group. A distsec mailing list has been started, and the group's scope appears to focus on protocols for distributed firewalling. Eric and Chris suggested that if the scope were expanded, distsec efforts might align well with those of NetAuth. [AI] {Chris} will send information to the list about how to join the "distsec" mailing list, which is an open list. [Note: This information was sent to list on 13-Oct-05]. The following link can be used to join the distsec mailing list:

[AI] {Individuals} who look into the distsec mailing list are requested to provide feedback to the group on whether the activities are of interest to this group.

The group reviewed the status of action items. The architecture document has been posted as final. The request for suggestions on updates to include in the Effective Security Practices Guide concluded with this call, since the conference is next week. There were no suggestions. The AI concerning IETF activities that could align with NetAuth efforts was addressed during this call in the discussion of the IETF Distributed Security BoF.

Chris reported on the status of NetAuth in federated environments. A proposal has gone to Internet2 requesting funding to get an FWNA experiment up and running in, with a timeframe of the next three months.
