- Updates -
Computer Security Incidents - Internet2
(CSI2): this new working group is still percolating, the website
is not yet public, Chris Misra (chair) will be convening a
call among the participants soon to discuss and refine the
proposed charter, and to work out a regular call schedule.
The CSI2 website will be linked from the main Security page
(security.internet2.edu) when it is ready.
Federated Wireless
NetAuth (FWNA) working group: Agreements have been signed between
Internet2 and Merit, and between Internet2 and U. Tennessee – Knoxville. 2 servers
have been purchased to serve as root servers for FWNA, and are
being configured. Goal is to have servers that connect different
institutions for the purposes of the trial, similar in concept
to the Eduroam root servers in Europe that serve different countries.
The initial experimental stage of the trial is being supported
by Internet2. Details will be available on the WG page as available.

Intent is for FWNA to propose a session for the upcoming Spring Internet2 Member Meeting <http://events.internet2.edu/2006/spring-mm/> to present the results of the trial to date. There will likely also be a BoF at the meeting discussing 802.1x, which is going to be a base standard for participating in the FWNA trial. Other authentication methods may be included later, but for the purposes of the initial trial 802.1x is required. It should be noted that for the purpose of this trial, FWNA is not intended to replace existing guest access mechanisms for participating institutions, but rather to augment them.
There will also be a session at the upcoming Joint Techs workshop about FWNA, if will be attending. <http://jointtechs.es.net/newmexico2006/index.html>
REN-ISAC: working with Arbor Networks addressing DDOS attacks, with good results to date, involving both domestic (Abilene) and international partner sites. They are working on refining reports and notification mechanisms. Joint Techs: There will be a handful of security-related sessions, more info to come. Another NetGuru session will be held, follow-on to the last one, results will be discussed via the Ednog list, and published on the Internet2 Security website.
