Salsa-FWNA (Federated Wireless NetAuth) Sub-Group

Minutes | Mailing List | Documents | Links | Salsa-FWNA Wiki | Salsa-NetAuth

Background

The Salsa-NetAuth Working Group is chartered to address what is referred to as the 'visiting scholar' problem. From the Salsa-NetAuth charter:

Initial activities will include:

  • Analysis and proposal toward a pilot and eventual implementation to support network access to visiting scholars among federated institutions

Salsa-FWNA was formed as a sub-group of Salsa-NetAuth to address the substantial technical details of deploying a pilot federated wireless network authentication system. Initial work is focused on the project plan for the activity, developing engineering plans, and initial work on the pilot deployment.

FWNA holds conference calls every other week. Join the mailing list to receive agenda and conference bridge information. These calls fall on the opposite weeks from the regularly scheduled NetAuth conference calls.

Related Activities

Several other groups, including TERENA, ESnet, and others, have been working on the visiting scholar and related problems. The efforts of TERENA has resulted in the first generation EduRoam network. This system has achieved success by enabling scholars in Europe to obtain network access at peer institutions using their home authentication credentials.
