**Finalize Charter**
A draft charter for the Disaster Recovery Working Group is on the web site. [AI] Please send any comments or suggestions for the charter to the email list prior to the next phone call (May 25). The intent is to finalize the charter during the May 25 call.

In general, this working group is not intended as a discussion forum. The purpose deliverables, e.g. best/recommended practices, text examples for SLAs or contracts, and more TBD.

**Working Group Priorities**
Don posted a list of potential Working Group activities in the agenda. Categories for activities might include:
Don asked the group to consider this list and add other areas of interest.

Eric Gauthier said BU would be interested in the areas of emergency email hosting, offsite recovery and cooperative back-ups.

Mark Poepping suggested that the working group consider where it would like to go on these topics. Would a survey be appropriate to determine what shared services might exist and who is involved? One outcome would be documenting what institutions are already doing and document a set of best practices and some substantive service offerings. The approach the working group could take is to develop a list of ideas and topics and do a survey or other instrument to gauge interest.

Joe St. Sauver suggested providing a list of sites that are willing to do a relevant bilateral “swap” agreement. This will be incorporated into a matrix on the wiki. Eric said he would be interested in discovering a compatible mainframe elsewhere that might be interested in sharing, as one specific example.

Bob Dixon from Ohio State mentioned that there is an agreement among several universities in the state of Ohio. He will send a link to the agreement(s) to Steve Olshansky at Internet2 (or, in the absence of links, will send the document) for posting on the WG website. Anyone with this type of information and/or documentation can send links to SteveO.

Lynn Daily from RIT is looking at telecommunications as it related to command and control during an incident. RIT’s incident management team need to be able to talk to each other on-campus, externally and even overseas to manage crises and disasters. They are looking for technologies that are interoperable and not susceptible to a single point of failure.

Don confirmed that such communications are within the scope of this working group. Cornell is looking at that type of technology, as well as online messaging and email hosted elsewhere, as two examples.

Ohio State has a satellite trailer that goes anywhere and provides instant Internet access. There are a number of other units around the country. One of the challenges is keeping the trailers available, having people available to take the trailer on-site, then training people in its use. Technology on-board includes a phone system and wireless system, as well as other technologies. [AI] {Bob Dixon, OSU} will send link or info about their satellite trailers to the list

Ken Schroyer from Penn State said his university has acquired four satellite terminals that are portable and include technology such as telephony and Internet access. [AI] {Ken Schroyer, PSU} will send link or info concerning the satellite terminals they have purchased to the list.

Don suggested grouping these technologies into categories on the wiki, so that people with like interests can find one another and post information. [AI] {Steve Olshansky} will set up various spaces in the wiki:   **Next call - Friday, June 8, 1:00 p.m. EDT**
