February 28, 2008

**Attending**

Chris Misra, University of Massachusetts (Chair)
Dan Adinolfi, Cornell University
Brian Smith-Sweeney, New York University
Elliot Kendall, Brandeis University
Steve Olshansky, Internet2
Dean Woodbeck, Internet2 (scribe)

**Next call March 13, 2008, 2:00 p.m. (EST)**

**Spider**

Cornell has done Spider training as part of a larger session on emergency response. When the Spider documentation is complete, the hosting of it will move to Internet2. Dan will push to get the documentation completed by the end of March.

There was a discussion about Spider-specific training; UMass is interested and Cornell may support such sessions if there is a large enough audience.

**NERCOMP**

NERCOMP 2008 Annual Conference is March 10-12 in Providence RI. Members of the working group will be presenting on the Shifting Landscape and on Security Standards.

**Shifting Landscape **

Brian has this presentation completed and has given it at an NYU sysadmin monthly meeting. He will be putting a draft on the wiki for feedback. This will form the basis for presentations at both NERCOMP and Security Professionals Conference (SPC).

**APHIDS**

There was a discussion about GooLog, a Windows binary search tool that uses Google, but is in violation of Google’s service agreement. The consensus was that, while GooLog’s database might be of some value, similar tools already exist and the APHIDS tool seems superior – easy to set up and straightforward to use. Elliott plans to do some thing to make APHIDS more stable, then get feedback from the community and REN-ISAC.

**Repackaging discussion for new audiences**

While Chris was at the CAMP in Tempe, he discussed the repackaging idea – that is, recycling older but useful ideas and programs for new audiences – with a representative from NITLE. While there is no specific interest at this point, there is interest and this would be worth moving forward.
