March 27, 2008

**Attending**
Chris Misra, University of Massachusetts (Chair)
Elliot Kendall, Brandeis University
Phil Denault, WPI
Doug Pearson, Indiana University/REN-ISAC
Dan Adinolfi, Cornell University

**Shifting Landscape**

Brian Smith-Sweeney did the shifting landscape presentation at NERCOMP and it seemed well-received. It was a cohesive presentation. Brian and Phil Denault are now working on a four-hour version for a Security Professionals Conference pre-conference seminar.

**APHIDS**

Elliott is completing some functionality before sending it on to REN-ISAC. It is reasonably useful as it is now; however, anyone with ideas for signatures should feel free to write one up or let Elliott know of the idea.

**RENOIR**

Phil is spending time on RENOIR this week.

**Security Metrics**

Joel Rosenblatt has a conflict today (program committee call for SPC), so discussion on this item was deferred.

**CU-Spider**

In an ironic turn of events, Dan Adinolfi reported that the documentation for Spider is complete, but now the program has been updated and needs new documentation.

Dan also suggested Spider as a NERCOMP topic. Chris reported that planning for the next round of NERCOMP planning for 2008-09 will begin in May and will propose this for one of the upcoming meetings. Working group members also suggested a Spider demo at some point.

**Security Standards**

There may be opportunities for the working group to become involved in developing work on security standards. There is interest in developing documentation for security standards, as well as recommendations on structures and procedures. More institutions are becoming interested in specifications for standards (e.g. "if you have confidential data, you will be behind the firewall). Chris will be reporting on opportunities during upcoming phone calls.

**Upcoming Meetings**

The Internet2 Member Meeting is April 21-23 in Arlington, VA. http://events.internet2.edu/2008/spring-mm/

The Security Professionals Conference is May 4-6 in Arlington, VA. http://www.educause.edu/sec08

The next NoXsec is planned for July 25 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

**Repackaging Discussions**

The concept of repackaging discussion for new audiences continues to be viable and will remain on the agenda. The shifting landscape presentation is one example of the demand for these discussions – there is a lot of interest in the topic and presentation.
